More GMT800 stuff:

When manufacturers do two tone paint on trucks and it stops right at the tailgate. There is a six inch swath of metal that needs silver instead of blue. It even has the indentation to delineate where it should go. This is the third one I’ve seen like this today.

Yeah, that’s always bothered me too.

Of course now they don’t even offer two-tone, which is an even bigger shame.

It’s been awhile since I actually looked at one of these up close. Is it a true two tone paint job? Or just different colored snap on panels?

True story: in 1999 I worked in the paint Dept at Moraine Assembly where the Blazers were being made. I had an opportunity to try to mask off a Blazer before going in for a two tone job. The old fella training me let me have a crack at it. He said “kid I’ve been doing this for twenty years: there are people that have the knack for this kind paint work and there are those that don’t. You don’t have it kid”. I laughed. He was right. I did a hack job on the masking. Anyways...it was done by hand.

When GM changed the model from the 360 body style to the 370 the two tone was still an option but the second color was just cladding added on later down the assembly line.

Ok my reply went way too long. I see your grievance and will keep an eye out for this. I tend to agree that from an aesthetic standpoint: the tailgate should include the two tone just for continuity of art.

Somewhere at GM someone went “it costs us X amount of money and Y amount of time to paint a tailgate that only 12 people will ever notice if it wasn’t painted. Where’s my bonus?”
